A Wordle For Lent

Below is the text of Matthew 4:1-11, layed out in a unique way (thanks, Wordle!). Click the image for a larger version. Then let your eyes scan it and see what you notice. This is a good text for the season of Lent - Jesus spends forty days in the wilderness, fasting and praying. He is tempted by Satan, but resists using the word of God.
Wordle: Matthew4

If you come to youth group this week, we'll be doing some cool things to get ready for Lent. Hope to see you there...

Asking For Money

It's not easy. I know. Especially in this economy. But this week, a number of you will be finishing up some important fundraising. If you are a 30 hour famine person, you'll be asking folks to sponsor your fast and support the hungry. If you are a Kentucky person, you'll be selling Joe Corbi's pizza and asking folks to help us support the poor in Appalachia. Famine envelopes are due Friday when we arrive at Trinity church, and Corbi's money is due on Saturday to Anne Walters' house (144 Hopkins Ave., Haddonfield).
When fundraising, don't be like Corky. Instead, be straightforward, keep your disappointments to yourself, and remember - it's all for good, good causes, so the awkwardness is worth it!

Famine folks, I will be emailing with details for the weekend.

Also, because I miss you all so much, contrary to our published calendar, there will be youth group Sunday night! See you at the regular time and place, for some snacks, games and thoughts about lent.

Mall Walk, etc.

First of all, I am sorry that the lock-in didn't work out last week. I was looking forward to it, and I promise we'll find a way to make it up to you!!

This weekend, we have a special all-youth-group event: the Echelon Mall "walk for the homeless." This is an annual event that raises money and awareness to help those who are homeless in Camden County. It should be fun- they have a DJ, the Philly Phanatic will be there, and the whole thing is in a mall!!
If you plan to come, please RSVP (email me- jsanderson@haddonfieldpres.org) so I know how many drivers I need. Here are the details:
Plan to arrive at church at 1pm. Bring $ for lunch in the mall and wear comfy shoes. We'll head to the mall, grab lunch, do the walk, and get you back to church between 3 and 3:30! No evening youth group.
hasta domingo...

Warm Wednesday

Up to 68 degrees today!!! Thanks be to God. Apparently that's some kind of warm temperature record for this date in our area. My recommendation is to get outside, some way, somehow.

In other news, this Friday is the much anticipated 6th & 7th Grade lock-in!! For those unfamiliar with the lock-in concept, I found this helpful diagram. Basically, we come to church, lock the outside doors, have some wacky good times, get (a little) sleep, wake up and say our goodbyes. If you plan to coem you will need PJ's (use modesty please!!), sleeping bag and pillow, $5 for breakfast, and anything else that will help you to be comfortable on a church overnight. Eryn, Jeremy and gang are planning some fun and unusual games, so be ready to play along... and bring friends!! 8pm, Friday night, youth lounge. Plan to get picked up the next morning at 9am.

Since it's a 4-day weekend and many of you will be travelling, there is no regular youth group Sunday night. If you are bored and need something to do, celebrate President's day with this handy activity page.

See you soon!

Kentucky Fried Weekend

Hope y'all had a good time last week, with the Superbowl and whatnot. I had a great time out west and then in NYC with some of you for the choir trip.

This Saturday night, I hope everyone will bring the whole family out for the big Kentucky Chicken Dinner!!! 6pm in fellowship hall. Chicken, biscuits, coleslaw, baked beans, sweet tea, bluegrass music, southern comedy from Mr. Ken "Bubba" Carter... 'nuff said. Be there. $10 adults, $5 kids.

Sunday is youth group as usual. Eryn and the Matts are in charge this week and have some sweet ideas up their sleeves, so bring friends!!
